<h3>Job Description</h3><p>Job Description<p><p><strong>Overview</strong></p><p>This technical, administrative role focuses on construction-plan reviews and on-site inspections for projects governed by Part 9 of the National Building Code of Canada. The position issues building permits, enforces applicable bylaws and regulations, and provides guidance to staff, design professionals, contractors, and the public.</p><p><strong>Responsibilities:</strong></p><ul><li><p>Reports to the Manager of Development Planning and works operationally with the Chief Building Official.</p></li><li><p>Collaborates with planning, heritage, legal, fire, and police personnel; liaises with architects, engineers, contractors, and property owners; and maintains relationships with external agencies and professional groups.</p></li><li><p>Evaluate building plans, variations, and alternative-measure proposals to verify compliance with the National Building Code, zoning, and bylaws.</p></li><li><p>Conduct site inspections on new construction, renovations, and rehabilitations to ensure work meets all relevant codes and standards.</p></li><li><p>Accept and process building-permit applications, advise applicants on standards and procedures, and maintain inspection files and reports.</p></li><li><p>Investigate code violations, prepare documentation for by-law prosecutions, and issue Stop-Work and Compliance Orders when required.</p></li><li><p>Serve as a staff resource at planning and heritage meetings; provide code interpretations to internal teams and the public.</p></li><li><p>Perform related responsibilities as assigned.</p></li></ul><p><strong>Qualifications</strong></p><ul><li><p>High-school diploma (Grade 12) or equivalent (required).</p></li><li><p>Post-secondary degree, diploma, or provincial certification in construction, architecture, civil engineering, building science, or a related discipline (asset).</p></li><li><p>Minimum two years of experience in construction, restoration, or inspections with in-depth knowledge of codes, bylaws, and zoning.</p></li><li><p>Qualified Level 1 Building Official certification (e.g., NSBOA, NBBOA, or equivalent and eligible for recognition under the PEI Building Codes Act).</p></li><li><p>Valid Class 5 driver’s licence.</p></li><li><p>Extensive knowledge of building-construction practices, materials, and equipment (structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing).</p></li><li><p>Demonstrated ability to interpret the National Building Code of Canada (Part 9) and enforce requirements through plan reviews and inspections.</p></li><li><p>Strong technical-report writing, verbal, and interpersonal skills.</p></li><li><p>Proficiency with Microsoft Office and related software.</p></li><li><p>Sound judgment, discretion with confidential information, and the ability to build productive relationships.</p></li><li><p>Excellent time-management skills and the ability to meet aggressive deadlines.</p></li><li><p>Commitment to workplace health, safety, and well-being.</p></li><li><p>Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.</p></li></ul></p></p>Create Your Resume First
