With Series A funding secured and support from the U.S. Department of Energy to build a gigafactory, we’re on the cusp of scaling our groundbreaking solutions to redefine the energy landscape and create a cleaner, brighter tomorrow.</p><p><br></p><p><strong>The Opportunity </strong></p><p>We are looking for a highly skilled and motivated Senior Firmware Engineer to join our talented engineering team and contribute to the development of cutting-edge firmware for our battery energy storage systems (BESS). As a Senior Firmware Engineer, you will play a crucial role in designing, implementing, and testing the embedded software that controls the core functionality of our BESS. You will work closely with hardware engineers, power electronics engineers, and data scientists to ensure seamless integration and optimal performance.</p><p><br></p><p><strong>The Role</strong></p><ul><li><strong>Salary: </strong>$100,000 - $150,000 per year</li><li><strong>Location:</strong> In-person, Moment Energy Coquitlam Office</li><li><strong>Benefits:</strong></li><li>3 weeks paid vacation plus 1 week off between Christmas and New Year's</li><li>Extended health, dental, and vision benefits plan</li><li>RRSP matching</li><li>Regular company socials, events and weekly fitness and yoga</li><li>Free electric vehicle charging</li><li>Open and collaborative company culture!</li></ul><p><br></p><p><strong>Responsibilities and Duties</strong></p><ul><li>Design, develop, and maintain firmware for embedded systems used in battery energy storage systems (BESS).</li><li>Write clean, efficient, and well-documented code in C/C++ for microcontrollers and embedded processors.</li><li>Implement communication protocols (e.g., CAN, Modbus, Ethernet) for data exchange between BESS components.</li><li>Develop and implement control algorithms for battery management systems (BMS), including cell balancing, state estimation, and fault detection.</li><li>Collaborate with hardware engineers to define hardware-software interfaces and ensure seamless integration.</li><li>Perform rigorous testing and debugging of firmware to ensure reliability, safety, and performance, develop unit testing and integration testing with HIL systems.</li><li>Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in embedded systems and firmware development.</li><li>Contribute to the continuous improvement of Moment Energy's firmware development processes.</li></ul><p><br></p><p><strong>The Candidate</strong></p><ul><li>Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.</li><li>5+ years of experience in embedded firmware development, preferably in the renewable energy or automotive industries.</li><li>Previous experience on safety-critical software development and an understanding of relevant standards including ASIL.</li><li>Strong programming skills in C, with a deep understanding of embedded systems concepts.</li><li>Experience with communication protocols (e.g., CAN, Modbus, Ethernet) and real-time operating systems (RTOS).</li><li>Familiarity with micro controller architectures (e.g., ARM) and development tools.</li><li>Experience with debugging tools (e.g., JTAG, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers).</li><li>Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.</li><li>Strong communication and teamwork skills.</li><li>Passion for clean energy and a desire to make a positive environmental impact.</li></ul><p><br></p><p><strong>Our Commitments</strong></p><p>Moment Energy is an equal-opportunity employer.
