<h3>Job Description</h3><p>Job Description<p><p><strong>Scope of Position:</strong></p><p>Under the supervision of the Supervisor, Nutritional Services and as a member of the multidisciplinary care team, to provide dietary services, to prepare and provide quality meal service as a pleasurable dining experience in response to the Residents’ nutritional care needs. </p><p><strong>Position Description:</strong></p><ul><li>Provide direction to dietary staff in the absence of the Supervisor</li><li>In consultation with Supervisor, Nutritional Services reviews menus, cooking schedules, modified diet preparation, use of leftovers, etc.</li><li>Estimates food needs and requisitions supplies, suggests menu or recipe changes, check stock and be aware of any shortages that might result in a change of menu</li><li>Cook food according to the standard recipes and portion servings as per menu combinations as well as specific resident meal plans</li><li>Refer to menu and assist in preparing a list of products that need to be ordered</li><li>Inspect food including meats in storage, refrigerators, and freezers</li><li>Direct the sanitary maintenance of storage rooms, units, stoves, work tables and equipment</li><li>To participate as a team member in providing Resident centered care and service</li><li>Undertake all duties and responsibilities in compliance with Health and Safety standards, guidelines and legislation, including compliance with Public Health standards and Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care regulations</li><li>Participate in in-service educational opportunities</li><li>Maintain an awareness (at all times) of emergency procedures; participate in drills and associated educational opportunities</li><li>To be aware of and comply with all Corporate and facility policies and procedures</li><li>Adhere to infection control policies, procedures, protocols, routine and additional practices as required</li><li>Orientate new staff and student placements as required</li><li>Confidentiality is of extreme importance and must always be maintained</li><li>Perform other duties as assigned</li></ul><p><strong>Requirements</strong></p><p><strong>Knowledge and Experience:</strong></p><ul><li>Grade 12 graduation or equivalent</li><li>Plus a Chef Training or Culinary Management Diploma or Certificate by a College established under the Ontario College of Applied Arts and Technology Act</li><li>Must maintain current Food Handlers’ Certification (as per Public Health)</li><li>Previous relevant experience in a long term care setting preferred</li></ul><p><strong>Skills and Abilities:</strong></p><ul><li>Resident and customer service focus</li><li>Good communication skills (both oral and written)</li><li>The ability to work independently as well as part of a team</li><li>Familiarity with operation of telephone system and institutional kitchen equipment</li><li>Must be committed to a common purpose, performance goals and approach</li><li>Creativity in the plating and preparation/ presentation of attractive and appetizing meals</li><li>Commitment to quality food production and service and on-going quality monitoring and improvement</li><li>Computer expertise in corporate standard software (Microsoft Office) and department specific software to data search and entry and to create and modify word processed documents</li><li>Must be aware of safe work practices as they relate to job responsibilities and work environment, and have the basic understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety Act</li></ul><p><strong>Benefits</strong></p><p><strong>Posting #: </strong>SEIU 21.25</p><p><strong>Position:</strong> Cook</p><p><strong>Status:</strong> Permanent Part Time </p><p><strong>Number of Vacancies:</strong> 1</p><p><strong>Employee Group:</strong> SEIU Local 1 Canada </p><p><strong>Salary: </strong>$26.479 - $28.688 per hour ($1 less per hour for probationary period) (2024 rate)</p><p><strong>Division:</strong> Health and Social Services</p><p><strong>Department: </strong>Norview Lodge </p><p><strong>Reports To: </strong>Supervisor, Nutritional Services </p><p><strong>Location:</strong> Norview Lodge </p><p><strong>Posting Period: </strong>September 8, 2025 - September 22, 2025</p><p><strong>How to Apply:</strong></p><p>Follow the link below for the application process through Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge:</p><ul><li>Ensure the file extension for your resume document is .doc, .docx or .pdf</li><li>If you are electing to include a cover letter, the cover letter and resume must be uploaded as 1 file.</li></ul><p>Find out more information about Norfolk County here: Employment at Norfolk County - NorfolkCounty.ca</p><p></p><p>The Corporation of Norfolk County is an equal opportunity employer.
